Summary of the launch initiative: Chicago’s Unsung Heroes

In an effort to engage, connect and inspire, I Am We has launched The Chicago’s Unsung Heroes campaign, as its first initiative.  Through this endeavor, we will highlight 20 of Chicago’s most amazing everyday citizens, primarily living/serving marginalized underserved neighborhoods who are demonstrating exceptional impact and transforming lives within their community.  This exhibition will also share the narratives of lives forever changed by our courageous heroes.

What are the specific goals of this initiative?

  • Inspire
  • Increase Community Engagement
  • Promote intergenerational Relationships

Why is this initiative vital?

  • Creates an opportunity to engage and develop positive relationships with neighborhood residents and interested parties such as local businesses, institutions, government, faith based organizations, etc., who will be inspired to work side by side each other as an ongoing partner, with an end goal in making all communities a better place to live.
  • Provides compelling narratives that are rarely told of underserved communities; introduces the community to compelling art, and to each other.
  • Gives children and adults hope, while introducing them to modernized heroes living within their community.

Have you identified all of the 20 Unsung Heroes?
No.  We are working diligently within the community to identify theese amazing citizens.  If you know someone that you would like to nominate as a Chicago’s Unsung Hero, please contact us today, and tell us how they are impacting your community!

Where can it be seen?
At Museums and community institutions such as libraries, churches, and organizations.

Who is your target audience?
Primarily youth in under resourced communities, as this population, tends to exist in isolation and needs positive examples of effective modernized heroes that exist within their very own communities.  This population needs to know that they are valued, and that its community is working fervently with an end goal to make their neighborhood a better place to live.
